FUNDRAISER AT EASTPORT YACHT CLUB
Support the only American Woman Ever to Compete in the Mini Transat!

Gale Browning & the US Challenge Team will appear at Eastport Yacht Club on Saturday, February 24, from 4 to 7 pm.

Gale's multi-media presentation features the start of the 1999 Mini-Transat, her solo passage to Miami in December, her comments on the Mini's performance in the Fort Lauderdale-Key West race, and a question & answer period.

The presentation will begin promptly at 4:30 pm. Gale will sign the Kathryn Leonard-designed poster, and other team gear will be on sale. Tax deductible donations will be accepted.

Please remember that Gale is the only US entry and the first ever American woman to compete in the Mini-Transat Race. Gale intends to win the race and this requires our financial support.

Through the EYC Foundation Gale's supporters can contribute to the campaign and take a deduction on their income tax returns as a charitable contribution. This deduction is available to both businesses and individuals. Just make checks payable to the EYC Foundation and direct them to the Women's Sailing Programs. Contributions of property other than cash are also deductible by businesses and individuals.

We are also in need of volunteers to coordinate logistical aspects of the campaign involving travel arrangement & team gear sales. For more information please contact Kathy Weber, 410 263-5983, or Gale, 410 263-3609.

Directions to Eastport Yacht Club.

ON THE SCHEDULE

Feb. 15-19, Miami Boat Show: Gale will be appearing at the Miami Boat Show on February 15th through 19th courtesy of Merrill Stevens Sailing Center, the premiere rigging shop in South Florida. Stop by and say hello.

March 24-24, Crusader Yacht Sales Open House: Gale will be a featured guest speaker along with noted yacht designers Bill Crealock and Ron Holland. This event, at the Crusader Yacht Sales office located at Port Annapolis Marina in Annapolis (map and directions), is open to the public and has an exciting display of new & used boats as well as exhibits by marine trade businesses. More fun attractions included refreshments & door prizes courtesy of Crusader Yacht Sales and a raffle to benefit Gale's campaign. Contact Crusader Yacht Sales, for more information.

PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Partnership opportunities offer name/logo signage on the sails, hull and cabin house and other publicity benefits. These spots are value priced and offer a lot of "bang for the buck" for a firm interested in international exposure through a consumer attractive medium. If you want to convey images of high-tech and state of the art equipment, high performance, endurance, thorough preparation, fitness, athleticism, and international teamwork, consider Gale's US Challenge 2001 Mini-Transat campaign.

Gale is the only American woman to ever compete in this event and will be in the spotlight! The Mini-Transat race is featured prominently on TV, radio & print in Europe and our publicity & marketing team ensures that the sponsors are featured in all news releases.

Locally, Marty Bass and Don Scottof WJZ-TV interviewed Gale on the Morning Show with the boat--and its graphics & signage--featured on regional TV. Spinsheet Magazine has continuing coverage of Gale's campaign as well as The Capital, the Washington Post, and Baltimore Sun newspapers, Soundings, Sailing World, Southwinds, and other nautical and human interest publications.

All sponsors are featured on our website with links to the corporate web page. To investigate the benefits of sponsorship, contact Cheryl Jersey at Jersey & Associates.

WEBSITE

We have tape of Gale on the boat in Maryland and sailing in Florida and hope to have it on our website soon. But check out the great photos of Gale & the boat by John Bildahl and Billy Black. Take a look at Gale at the Fort Lauderdale Key West Race awards ceremony! Elvia Thompson of Stellar Presentations, Inc., has redesigned the site and it is being hosted by Annapolis firm Systematic Solutions.

TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS

Please remember that Gale is the only US entry in the Mini-Transat Race. To compete effectively she must have our financial support. Through the EYC Foundation Gale's supporters can contribute to the campaign and take a deduction on their income tax return as a charitable contribution. This deduction is available to both businesses and individuals. Just make checks payable to EYC Foundation and direct them to the Women's Sailing Programs. Contributions of property other than cash are also deductible by businesses and individuals.

For example, unused frequent flier miles would be very helpful toward Gale's travel needs. So if you participate in a frequent flier program and don't need the extra miles, consider donating them to the EYC Foundation. We have received several very generous contributions and gratefully thank these businesses & individuals for their support. All contributions should be sent to EYC Foundation, P.O. Box 3205, Annapolis MD 21403 or delivered to Eastport Yacht Club.

WISH LIST

Cash-we will need to pay shipping fees, boatyard fees (at the French yard... Consolidated Yacht Company is donating their services to Gale in Florida), and storage in La Rochelle by March.

Sails-at minimum, another complete suit will be needed plus a main & spinnaker for the preliminary races

New mast-we have ordered a new mast because of some pre-existing structural problems that were discovered before the Miami trip. Atlantic Rigging fabricated a repair that is "OK for now," but the mast must be replaced before the start of the Mini-Transat race

Spare pole-jibs, gennakers, and spinnakers are tacked to the carbon fiber pole. For a 4,000 mile race it would be prudent to have a spare

Charts-navigational & pilot charts for races

Team clothing

Volunteers-two volunteers needed to make travel arrangements with our travel agent and and to organize sale of Team Gear
